Instead of creating the standard über-professional resume we so often see on About pages on web sites, I opted to take a more folksy approach -- it was far more interesting to write.  Below is Theresa Rose in a nutshell…

My most important stuff first:

  • I have been blissfully married to a supercutie named Michael Rose since 1997. We met in Colorado at my corporate job in 1995 – he was a technology consultant on one of the projects that I managed.  For six months, I was basically his boss. (No, it was not a portent of things to come…I would often turn into a quivering mass of goofiness around him in our early days).
  • I have been Emma’s mom since 2001.  She is beautiful, powerful, creative, loving, hilarious, a brainiac, and a million other phenomenal things. In a word, Divine.
  • I am a Midwesterner through and through.  Even though I live in Sarasota, Florida, I am a Minnesotan on the inside.  You can take the girl out of the Land of 10,000 Uff da’s, but you can’t take the Uff da out of the girl.
  • I used to be Tracy Rose.  I legally changed my name to Theresa Rose in February of 2008, and all of the sordid details surrounding my decision are included in my award-winning book, Opening the Kimono.  My blog called In the Rose Garden also talks about it.

Now let’s talk about the other stuff. Imagine you’re at a party and you meet a stranger; what is the first question you always ask?  If you’re like me, you ask the person “What do you do?” within the first few minutes.  Since most of us spend at least half of our waking adult lives at our jobs, our careers tell us a lot about who we are, how we spend our days, and hopefully, what we love.  So, pretend you and I have just met at the neighborhood weenie roast.  You ask me the proverbial icebreaker…

“I am a writer, energy healer, meditation facilitator, and motivational speaker who educates, entertains, and inspires people to heal themselves, become aware of their unlimited power, and create their own unique, dogma-free relationship with Spirit.”

Whew…that’s a mouthful (and to be honest, kind of annoying, no?).  The Reader’s Digest version is: “I’m a writer.”  My experience as a healer, facilitator and speaker are highly rewarding in and of themselves, but for me, writing transcends the concept of a JOB.  It is my voice, my therapy, my late-night obsession, my passion.  In addition to writing my first book, Opening the Kimono, I was also a Staff Columnist for Positive Change magazine where I penned a monthly inspirational column called “Your Personal Power.”

Before creative writing found its way into my world in 2005, I had lots of other jobs that took me all over the country…

On the alternative healing front, I’ve been a practicing Licensed Massage Therapist specializing in energy healing since 2003.  I’ve owned an alternative healing center, been a yoga instructor, taught Reiki classes privately and at several massage therapy schools, and facilitated lots and lots of guided meditation and blessedly continue to do so!

On the corporate business front, I’ve been a senior manager of marketing and product development, a consultant for higher education, a business process re-engineering consultant (Ugh. Don’t even ask.), a technology project manager, a public relations coordinator, an office manager, an administrative assistant, and had a multitude of Temp Jobs from Hell.

I’m very proud to say that in 2003, I earned my Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Management from Eckerd College while working full-time and having a baby.  If you don’t think that’s a big deal, try reading Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, finish a Powerpoint presentation for upper management and nurse your teething infant at 2:00 in the morning.  Believe me, it’s harder than it looks.

Education has always been important to me, and I feel driven to continue to feed my brain.  Right now I am in a two-year cross-cultural ministerial training program through the Center for Sacred Studies.  In this extraordinary program, I am expanding my knowledge and experience of indigenous ceremony, ritual, transpersonal psychology, and a multitude of other spiritual goodies.

Each of my experiences is priceless to me, as they have contributed to the person I am today.  I met many wonderful people over the years and gained valuable skills, knowledge and experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world.  Thanks, Manpower!
